The Mill and Asterokid embark on an intergalactic space race in Galactic Mail

20th March 2009 - The Mill, Asterokid (Douglas Lassance) and Motraboy (Jonathan Vuillemin) have created animation piece ‘Galactic Mail’, an intergalactic space race that pits delivery giants FedEx against UPS.

Director Asterokid said, “Deadlines were extremely tight so we tried to approach the character design process in a different way. This time we went straight into 3D, working with cubes to get the right proportions and shapes for the characters. This worked well as it enabled us to skip the process of translating 2D sketches in to 3D. Once we were happy with the design, it was ready to go.”

Galactic Mail is part of The Mill’s continuing initiative to produce in-house short films. As well as enabling the team to challenge their creativity, the initiative also allows for important practical R&D that enables The Mill to remain at the cutting edge of innovation and creativity across commercial projects.
